Pwlldu

Pwlldu Bay is one of the most secluded and unspoilt beaches on the Gower Peninsula, located between Caswell Bay and Brandy Cove. Known for its dramatic limestone cliffs, pebble shoreline and wild scenery, it is one of the best hidden beaches near Swansea for walkers and nature lovers.

The beach is mainly pebbles, with sand and rock pools exposed at low tide, and is backed by the beautiful Bishopston Valley woodland, where a stream flows down to the sea. With no road access, cafés or facilities, Pwlldu offers a true sense of isolation and natural beauty.

Smuggling History and Heritage at Pwlldu Bay

Pwlldu Bay's remote location made it a historic smugglers' landing spot. The old buildings remaining near the beach were once pubs that served the men who worked the limestone cliffs here — the remnants of this industrial and smuggling past still shape the landscape today.

Walking to Pwlldu Bay via the Wales Coast Path and Bishopston Valley

Accessible only on foot via the Wales Coast Path or through Bishopston Valley, Pwlldu Bay is popular for coastal walking, wildlife spotting and photography. Backed by ancient woodland and with a stream running to the sea, it is one of the wildest and most peaceful beaches in Gower — perfect for those seeking quiet scenery and adventure.

Safety Information

Strong tides and steep pebbles make swimming dangerous at Pwlldu Bay. Always check tide times before visiting and take care on the shoreline. Sturdy footwear is strongly recommended for the approach paths.
